  Donations Guidelines for Food Banks

*Focus on shelf-stable foods that do not require refrigeration, such as canned goods, dry grains, and packaged snacks.

*Ensure that all items are within their expiration or “best by” dates. Food banks cannot distribute expired products.

*Donate food that is unopened and in its original packaging to ensure safety and quality.

Practices to Avoid

*Any items that are past their expiration or “best by” dates should not be included

*Food that has been opened, partially consumed, or has damaged packaging cannot be accepted for safety reasons.

*Most food banks do not accept homemade items due to safety and labeling concerns.

*Alcoholic beverages are typically not accepted by food banks.

*Any food items that do not have clear labeling or ingredient lists should not be donated, as they cannot be verified for safety.

*Be mindful of common allergens (like nuts) and consider donating items that are allergy-friendly when possible.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your donations are helpful and safe for those who rely on food banks for assistance. Thank you for your generosity!
